Kids are getting up, getting dressed, getting breakfast...then going to their home computer for school. It's a growing trend says Goldwater Institute Education Director, Jonathan Butcher.

Profiles of youth who opt for home schooling include elite athletes who need a flexible schedule, kids who are ahead of classmates or kids who are behind.

He adds that education savings accounts, money otherwise used for a child in public school, can be utilized by parents for home schooling. They can buy on-line classes or college courses or hire a tutor.

He says this changes the perception of what education is from where do kids go to school to what is the best way they learn the material.

About 22 1/2 thousand children in Arizona are home-schooled.
