A Thing Called Hand Salad Is Making People So Mad

On Monday, Bon Appétit unveiled a guide to throwing a dinner party that included a recipe for "hand salad." The dish consists of hearts of Romaine separated by leaves and arranged on a platter that you dip in dressing and eat with your hands.

Twitter users were quick to mercilessly mock the food publication for its attempt to make "hand salad" a thing. "If you are a garbage person that wants to drink ranch dressing, have the courage to own it," one wrote. "I would leave a restaurant if I saw hand salad on the menu," another declared. Meanwhile, one user defiantly tweeted, "Yes, I will continue dunking things into ranch dressing. No, I won't be calling it a f**king 'hand salad.'"

Others pointed out that Urban Dictionary coined the term "hand salad" back in 2011. Their definition is "a late-night salad created by taking a large leaf of lettuce, placing several different items inside such as bacon bits, cheese, tomatoes and salad dressing. Fold the lettuce over like a burrito, hold it in your hand with no plate or utensils and eat it.”
