Dogs are the glue of families and are really great companions. When adopting a pet, it could get costly but now you are in luck because Maricopa County Animal Care & Control are offering 200 free dog adoptions due to overcrowding!

The Phoenix shelter would offer 150 large adult dogs while 50 large adult dogs were available at the Mesa shelter.

All dogs that are 7 months or older and weigh 20 pounds or more were made eligible for free adoption.

The shelter's free adoptions were sponsored by Arizona Animal Rescue Mission.

The shelters bring in between 80 to 100 stray animals every day and are being forced to take measures that include euthanizing dogs, according to Santiago.

"We usually only euthanize dogs considered unhealthy, aggressive or unadoptable," said Santiago. "But now we are being forced to look at dogs that have been in our shelters for a while and consider euthanizing them."

The Phoenix shelter is at  2500 S 27th Ave. The Mesa shelter is at 2630 W. Rio Salado Parkway. Both are open until 6 p.m. on weekdays and 5 p.m. on weekends.

It's a great excuse to rescue a furry friend!
