Police Arrested Armed Man At Phoenix Comicon

(KFYI News) A heavily armed man was arrested at the Phoenix Convention Center Thursday afternoon during the first day of the Phoenix ComiCon event.  

Phoenix police say the 30-year-old man was pointed out by an employee as being suspicious  He had been taking photos of officers inside the Convention Center, and he struggled with officers before he was taken into custody, with quite an arsenal of weapons on him.

According to Sgt. Mercedes Fortune, the man had three handguns, a shotgun, along with knives and ammunition.  The man admitted to police that his intention was to arm officers.

Sgt. Fortune says the man was not inside the ComiCon event, which had about 25,000 people attending at the time.  

As a result of the arrest, there will be enhanced security and no more imitation weapons allowed inside ComiCon, starting on Friday.
