When choosing a restaurant, many diners decide to frequent well-known eateries and even popular chains for a meal they can expect to be delicious. However, some of the best restaurants are the hidden gems and locally beloved establishments that have become a staple of their community.

Cheapism searched around the country for the "best under-the-radar steakhouse" in every state, choosing to celebrate the "chef- or family-owned steak joints" with stellar ratings and reviews over the "well-known chains" and other "usual suspects."

So which underrated Arizona steakhouse stands out among the rest?

J&G Steakhouse at the Phoenician

This Scottsdale restaurant was praised for its French and European influence and signature filet mignon. J&G Steakhouse, which has a 4.5 star rating and more than 600 reviews, is located in the Phoenician luxury resort at 6000 E Camelback Road.

Here's what Cheapism had to say about this hidden gem establishment:

"The signature steak is the 8- or 12-ounce filet mignon. J&G Steakhouse at the Phoenician boasts Chef de Cuisine Jacque Qualin, a native of the Franche-Comté region of France. In 2009, he opened J&G Steakhouse, and the menu reflects his European heritage with Comté-cheese-laced potato gratin and other dishes. It has stellar dining room views, too."
