A high school junior from Indiana made a dress for his prom date…even though he had never sewn anything before.Parker Smith’sfriend and date,Addi Rust, had fallen in love with a prom gown that was out of her price range and she joked to him, “Why don’t you just make my prom dress!” After thinking about it, he says he realized he could actually do it and got to work.
Parker started creating the dress back in February, months before the Pendleton Heights High School prom, so he would have plenty of time. The teen worked hard teaching himself to sew and got some tips from his grandmother along the way.
He admits that during the process, he would remake some of the sections of the dress multiple times to get it right and his efforts paid off. When Parker was finished, he had created a lovely blue ball gown with a full skirt for Addi, perfect for twirling in. When she saw it for the first time, she admits to getting teary-eyed. In atweetshowing off the finished frock, she writes that it’s “the coolest thing” she’s ever been a part of and ads, “I’m so lucky to have him as my best friend.”
